Douglas Kinney Frost, Piano
Douglas Kinney Frost is in demand as a collaborative pianist and conductor on four continents. The national press has labeled his work “a vigorous display of artistic strength.” He is frequently engaged by the great opera houses and theaters of the world, with some of the world’s most beloved vocal artists.
His rise to the podium came through the tradition of the world’s great opera houses, quickly advancing from rehearsal pianist, to assistant conductor, to chorus master. As a coach and accompanist he is frequently sought by acclaimed vocal and instrumentalists for musical preparation and recital work.
A recent presentation included CBC’s Julie Nesrallah in concert at the international Turner to Cezanne exhibit at the Everson Museum, pairing two centuries of French art song with the paintings that inspired them. He has assisted internationally acclaimed artists including baritone Greer Grimsley, legendary mezzo-soprano Ann Murray, soprano Patricia Racette, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, even countertenor Lawrence Zazzo.
His commitment to the training of young artists in a national calling card. He has been fundamental in establishing training programs for emerging singers, conductors and collaborative pianists at Florida Grand Opera, Utah Opera, Syracuse Opera, and Ithaca College. And in 2019 was named Principal Conductor of the Butler Opera Center at the University of Texas.
